Tata Motors is preparing to introduce the Safari EV in India during the festive season, marking its entry into the three-row electric SUV segment and positioning it above the Harrier EV in the company’s lineup.
Internally codenamed “Tayrona,” the Safari EV will be based on the acti.ev+ architecture, which also underpins the Harrier EV.
It is expected to retain the overall silhouette of the ICE Safari, while incorporating EV-specific design updates such as a closed-off front grille, revised bumpers, and aerodynamic alloy wheels. Inside, the SUV is likely to follow a layout similar to the ICE version, featuring a four-spoke steering wheel and a large floating infotainment display.
The Safari EV is expected to share its powertrain options with the Harrier EV, including 65 kWh and 75 kWh battery packs. A rear-wheel-drive setup is likely to be standard, while higher variants may get a dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration.
Given its larger dimensions and weight, the Safari EV is expected to deliver slightly lower range figures than the Harrier EV, while still targeting close to 600 km in top-spec variants.
Fast charging support of up to 100 kW DC is also expected, along with multiple terrain modes and a multi-link rear suspension setup aimed at improving ride comfort and stability.
